Subsequent to the asbestos identification works undertaken at the site during January 2014, SERS was commissioned by Liberty Industrial to undertake control monitoring during the time of the project that asbestos is present. Respirable fibre monitoring is being undertaken while identified friable asbestos removal is taking place.

SERS is undertaking all clearance inspections for friable removal works with control and clearance monitoring undertaken. Additionally all aspects of smoke testing and verification of removal methods is being audited in assistance of the removal contractor.

Control monitoring results were directly used as a baseline of the effectiveness of the removal method undertaken while giving confidence to workers both immediately adjacent, within the power plant itself and on the adjacent premises.

Outcome

The project is being undertaken with the all assistance necessary for the contractor to ensure the project is being completed in a non-disruptive manner. Communication lines between all vested parties are transparent and control monitoring incorporated immediate advice during works which ensured legislated compliance is maintained throughout the duration of the project.
