VERVE MONITORING

Job site/ location: Verve Power Station, Kwinana, Perth, Western Australia
Client: CMA / United Group
Value of Works: ~$750,000
Commencement of Works: July 2009
Completion of Works: November 2010

Description of Works
Subsequent to the asbestos identification works undertaken at the site, SERS was commissioned firstly by CMA and subsequently United Group to undertake control monitoring during the time of the project that asbestos was present. Respirable fibre monitoring was also conducted while identified friable asbestos removal was taking place.

SERS conducted all clearance inspections for friable removal works with control and clearance monitoring undertaken. The friable removal component of the works was costed at $6,000,000 making it one of the largest friable asbestos removal projects seen in Western Australia.

Control monitoring results were directly used as a baseline of the effectiveness of the removal method undertaken while giving confidence to workers both immediately adjacent, within the power plant itself and on the adjacent premises. Works were conducted over a seven day working week.

Outcome
The project was successfully undertaken with the project being completed in a non-disruptive manner. Communication lines between all vested parties were transparent and control monitoring incorporated immediate advice during works which ensured legislated compliance was maintained throughout the duration of the project.
